We might be 8618 km away but collectively, Kiwi Waka Ama Singapore has laid down a wero or challenge to ourselves to span the distance between Singapore and Ukraine and let them know the rest of the world supports them in their fight for their country.
Collectively, our club members will paddle as many km's as we can in six weeks (up to and including Easter Monday. We want to increase awareness of the situation in Ukraine and support them by raising funds for the Red Cross of Singapore to go towards the provision of relief supplies such as hygiene kits, family kits, and household kits for the vulnerable and displaced by the conflict. One of our club's kaupapa or values is He waka eke noa - 'We are in this waka together' - as such we are asking individual club members to rally support for this cause through sponsorship per km they paddle over the next 6 weeks. Their distances will be recorded using tracking devices and each paddler will be asked to provide weekly updates to their sponsors and a final summary on completion.
